Awards / Major Production Accomplishments

MAKING WAVES (2011) - produced and directed by Frances McElroy; supported in part with a 2009 Pew Fellowship in the Arts and a 2010 Transformation Award from the Leeway Foundation. Other supporters include The William Penn Foundation, Independence Foundation, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Philadelphia Independent Film & Video Association.

MIRROR DANCE - co-produced and co-directed by Frances McElroy and Maria Rodriguez; CINE Golden Eagle Award, 2005; First Place for Documentary Excellence, Society of Professional Journalists, Greater Philadelphia Chapter; 2006 Imagen Award finalist for Best Documentary for Television or Film; Award of Merit, Latin American Studies Association Film Festival, Montreal, Canada, 2007; awarded major support from ITVS (Independent Television Service/CPB). Other supporters include Latino Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Arts, The Philadelphia Foundation, the 5-County Arts Fund, the Montgomery County Foundation, and the Philadelphia Independent Film & Video Association. The documentary premiered nationally in 2005 on the Emmy Award winning PBS series INDEPENDENT LENS. It is now seen on the PBS series GLOBAL VOICES.

BALLYCASTLE - produced and directed by Frances McElroy; Cine Golden Eagle Award, 2004; First Place for Documentary Excellence, Society of Professional Journalists, Greater Philadelphia Chapter; awarded grants from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Claneil and Leeway Foundations; exhibited as part of the May 2001 exhibition of Stuart Shils’ Irish work at Woodmere Art Museum; exhibited at Concord (MA) Art Museum as part of American Artists in Rural Ireland exhibit, 2006; Southside Film Festival, Bethlehem, PA, 2006; premiered regionally as part of WYBE’s PHILADELPHIA STORIES 4 series in 2004; presented nationally by American Public Television and WHYY (PBS/Philadelphia).

AN ANGEL IN THE VILLAGE - produced by Frances McElroy and directed by Glenn Holsten; broadcast nationally on public television; received funding from the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; 2000 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award; 1999 First Prize for Documentary Excellence, Society of Professional Journalists, Greater Philadelphia Chapter; 2000 Gabriel Award; screened at The Community Gallery at The Philadelphia Foundation, October 2000; The Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema, 2001; Free Library of Philadelphia 2002

OUR FOOD OUR FUTURE - produced and directed by Frances McElroy; distributed nationally by American Public Television; 2001 Award for Documentary Excellence in Television Journalism, Society of Professional Journalists, Greater Phila. Chapter; Mid-Atlantic Emmy nomination for public affairs documentary, 2002.
